We were delighted to recently host our second MM Flowers Apprentice Discovery Day, welcoming 18 local young people to our site for an immersive introduction to life and careers at MM Flowers.
Supported by our partners at Inspire 2 Ignite, the Discovery Day formed part of our ongoing commitment to engaging, developing, and supporting future talent within our local community. All attendees had previously taken part in our pre-engagement MM Sim sessions earlier in the year, or simulation sessions delivered at the Citizen Hub by the Inspire 2 Ignite team. These sessions provided students with valuable insight into the world of work and prepared them for the next stage of the process.
The Discovery Day was designed to build on this foundation, offering candidates a genuine, real-world experience of what it’s like to work at MM Flowers. Throughout the day, students took part in a range of practical activities aimed at assessing key workplace skills, including research and development, effective communication, and teamwork.
A key highlight of the day was a three-minute presentation delivered by each candidate, where they shared what MM Flowers’ company values mean to them and how they apply these principles in their everyday lives. This gave students the opportunity not only to demonstrate their presentation skills and confidence, but also to reflect on the importance of values, behaviours and culture in the workplace.
Alongside identifying future talent for the business, a core aim of the Apprentice Discovery Day was to create clear and accessible career pathways for local students who have chosen an alternative route to university. We are passionate about supporting young people who want to start their careers straight from education, providing opportunities that allow them to grow, develop new skills and build long-term careers within the Huntingdon area.
By opening our doors and offering hands-on insight into our working environment, the Discovery Day helped candidates better understand the variety of roles available at MM Flowers and what a future career with us could look like. It also allowed our teams to connect with the next generation of talent, share their own experiences and highlight the progression opportunities available through our apprenticeship programmes.
We would like to thank Inspire 2 Ignite for their continued support and collaboration and congratulate all the students who took part for their enthusiasm, professionalism and hard work throughout the day. We look forward to seeing where their journeys take them next.
