Celebrating Fairtrade Fortnight - The Heart of Bohemian Flowers Crèche

Community Special Report

For the next two weeks, we will be joining the movement, celebrating the difference we can all make when we choose Fairtrade and shining a spotlight on the people and communities behind our Fairtrade products.

We are proud to work closely with our growers, customers and The Fairtrade Foundation as we continue to advocate for fair conditions throughout our supply chain.

In the 2024 calendar year, we sourced 32,589,486 Fairtrade stems from Kenya and Ecuador. By choosing to buy Fairtrade flowers, you are buying more than just a beautiful bouquet. The premium generated by Fairtrade sales is used to finance programmes chosen by farm workers themselves, including the crèche at Bohemian Flowers, one of our partner farms in Kenya, run by a dedicated team of six caregivers and a matron, working in shifts to accommodate flower workers’ schedules. Teresa Wairimu Kinyua, mother of three, and an employee at Bohemian Flowers, shares how Fairtrade premiums benefit her on a daily basis.

“My responsibility is to take her to the crèche, then they sort the nappies, the porridge, and the meals for my baby. My reporting time at work is 9 am, and the crèche closes at 6 pm. I pick my child up at 5:40 pm. So, when feeding her during dinner, most of the time, she is so full since she was well fed at the crèche during the day.

“I am grateful to Fairtrade Premium because they have been taking care of my child through the crèche. The hygiene, the food, and the playground are nice. When working, I am comfortable knowing my child is safe.”
