Meet Amy, our procurement executive apprentice, as she shares a behind‑the‑scenes look at life during peak. From managing fast‑moving equipment stock to coordinating closely with suppliers under tight timelines, Amy’s day highlights the attention to detail, organisation and adaptability required to keep packaging procurement running smoothly when it matters most.
8:00 AM – Starting the Day
Once I arrive, I begin by reviewing emails to identify any urgent matters, such as supplier updates, delivery changes, or equipment requests. I then update stock levels for equipment, reviewing what was received the previous day and comparing this against current requirements. During peak, stock moves quickly, so accuracy is essential to avoid disruption.
Morning – Equipment De-Hire and Ongoing Supplier Checks
Throughout the morning, I manage the de-hire of equipment that is no longer required. At the same time, I am continuously checking ETAs on deliveries, following up with suppliers as needed to make sure urgent items will arrive on time. This constant monitoring is crucial during peak when timelines are tight.
12.30 – Lunch:
I take a break to reset before the afternoon. Peak can be busy, but stepping away briefly helps maintain focus.
Early Afternoon – Administration/ Raising Purchase Orders
The afternoon is often dedicated to administrative tasks. After reviewing stock levels and delivery priorities, I raise purchase orders for new equipment for the coming weeks. Attention to detail here is critical, as mistakes or delays could directly impact operations.
Throughout the Day – Follow-Ups and ETA Monitoring
Checking on supplier deliveries is an ongoing task. I continuously follow up on urgent orders, confirm updated ETAs.
5:00 PM – End of Day Review
Before finishing, I ensure urgent matters have been addressed and priorities for the following day are clear
